Using MathPoint
MathPoint is an add-in for PowerPoint and Word. Ask Claude or ChatGPT in chat, and the slides or document you have open are edited on the spot. Math, figures, and tables are typeset with TeX.
What you need
- PowerPoint or Word (Microsoft 365 or Office 2021 and later, on Windows, Mac, or the web)
- A Google account (used to sign in to MathPoint)
- A Claude or ChatGPT account
Getting started
1. Add the add-in
Run one line, then reopen PowerPoint or Word; MathPoint appears under Home → Add-ins.
Mac (Terminal)
curl -fsSL https://mcp.tex64.com/mathpoint/install | sh
Windows (PowerShell)
irm https://mcp.tex64.com/mathpoint/install.ps1 | iex
2. Sign in
Click “ログイン” (Sign in) in the task pane and sign in with Google.
3. Connect your AI
Choose Claude or ChatGPT in the task pane to open the connection steps. To set it up by hand, add this URL as a connector (MCP server):
https://mcp.tex64.com/mathpoint/mcp
- Claude: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector → paste the URL, then approve on the MathPoint sign-in and consent page
- ChatGPT: Settings → Apps & Connectors → create a connector in developer mode → paste the URL and approve
Example requests
- “Put the quadratic formula on slide 2.”
- “Redraw this hand-drawn circuit as a clean diagram and place it on slide 3.”
- “Turn this table into a booktabs table with decimal-aligned numbers.”
- “In Word, add Euler's identity after paragraph 3, and make the a ≠ 0 in the text a formula.”
- “Typeset Maxwell's equations and show me the image.” (works without PowerPoint or Word open)
What it can do (tools the AI uses)
| Read | Slide and document content, and the formulas MathPoint inserted (list_slides, word_read, list_layouts) |
|---|---|
| Math | Typeset with TeX and insert into slides or documents, or re-typeset (insert_math, update_math, word_insert_math, word_update_math). Return a typeset formula as an image (render_math) |
| Figures and tables | TikZ / pgfplots figures and tabularray tables, including clean redraws of hand drawings and screenshots (figure_*, table_draft) |
| Text and layout | Add or rewrite text boxes and paragraphs, move or delete shapes, add slides (set_text, add_text_box, move_shape, delete_shape, add_slide, word_insert_text, word_set_text, word_delete) |
| Images | Place photos and screenshots as they are (insert_image, word_insert_image) |
| Usage | How many items you typeset this month (usage) |
Deletions (delete_shape, word_delete) can be undone with Undo in PowerPoint or Word.
Plans
- Free: up to 30 typeset formulas, figures, or tables per month (re-typesetting the same source is not counted; resets on the 1st)
- Paid: no monthly limit, 600 JPY per month including tax. You will be able to subscribe from the MathPoint account page when it launches.
Your data
Slide and document content passes through the server to your AI when the AI reads it; MathPoint does not store it. TeX sources and typeset output are kept for up to 30 days for your work. See the privacy policy.
Troubleshooting
- “The add-in is not connected”: keep the MathPoint task pane open in PowerPoint or Word.
- The AI doesn't use MathPoint: mention “MathPoint” in your request, or check that the connector is enabled.
- To disconnect an AI, use “Connected apps” on the account page.
